The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Friday declared the historic Islamia College University as national heritage to retain old glory of pioneer education institute of this region, directed to not bring change in the original structure of the building.

This was announcement by provincial Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussain while speaking at a function of the University. The function was also addressed by the Vice Chancellor of ICU Madam Dr Noor Jehan, Chairman Pashto Department, Abasin Yousufzai and Director Archaeology Department KP, Dr Shah Nazar.

He maintained that ICU was the old and historical institution of the province and its outgoing students were playing their active role in different fields nationally as well as globally. He said that it was the specialty of the ICU that its students were always most confident adding that it was the reason that its students have the capability of go ahead.

The provincial minister also inaugurated Mian Rashid Hussain Shaheed Block and Teachers students centre in Islamic Collegiate Peshawar, the block constructed at Rs 5 million cost. He also attended the Christmas programme and cut the cake. Referring to the abducted Vice Chancellor of ICU Ajmal Khan, the Minister said that he was the benefactor of this land and he had tremendous services in teaching. He added that strenuous efforts were underway for safe release of Ajmal Khan and he announces on this forum that the government was ready to fulfill the genuine demand of the abductors.

The Information Minister asserted that we love peace and hate violence and it was our utmost desire to have a book and pen instead of gun in the hands of our new generation. That was why; his government has introduced a lot of reforms in the education sector and established record number of universities, colleges and schools in every nook and corner of the province.
