The legal fraternity here on Thursday observed strike against a deadline for disposal of pending cases fixed by National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC). The NJPMC had directed the district judiciary of country to decide all old cases by December 31.

The Bar councils and associations had expressed serious reservations terming the deadline impractical. Pakistan Bar Council had appealed to lawyers across the country to observe a strike on Thursday to register a protest against the deadline. In Lahore High Court, the President of the Bar association along with other office-bearers visited all courts and requested the judges not to hold proceedings in light of the strike announced by the PBC. The judges however refuse to accept their request but said no case will be dismissed due to non appearance of lawyers.
