The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has convened its internal meeting on Thursday to deliberate upon the Supreme Court's directive of calling Pakistan Army for verification of the voters in Karachi, an official of the commission said.

However, some media reports claims that Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan confirmed that following the directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan the commission has requested Pakistan army for assistance in carrying out door-to-door verification of the voters in Karachi.

The secretary also revealed to media that the vote verification procedure will start from January 1, 2013 and is likely to be completed within two months. He said the commission contacted the army in this respect. Apart from this, he said around 16 political parties already submitted their proposals pertaining to final electoral lists which would come under discussion during Thursday's meeting of the commission.

The Supreme Court in its December 5 judgement directed the election commission to carry out a fresh door-to-door verification of voters in Karachi with the assistance of the army and the Frontier Corps (FC) so that apprehension of political parties could be removed.
