The Government College University, Lahore (GCU) has signed a key accord for five years with the National Institute of Lasers and Optronics, Islamabad (NILOP), working under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), for undertaking joint research and technological projects.

GCU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman signed NILOP Director General Dr S M Javed Akhter signed the agreement at a graceful ceremony at Syndicate Committee Room. NILOP Director Dr Mushtaq Ahmed, GCU Director Research Professor Dr Muhammad Zakria Butt, Dean Professor Dr Islam Ullah Khan, Psychics Department Chairperson Professor Dr Hassan A. Shah and Professor Dr Riaz Ahmed were also present.

As per the agreement, the GCU faculty members and postgraduate students will use the all the tech-high equipment and other technical and testing facilities of the NILOP for their research projects, as no laboratory of any university in Pakistan can match the high-tech facilities of NILOP in the fields of laser cooling and trapping, atomic clock, micro sensors, ultra short pulse laser, optronics etc.

Talking about importance of research collaborations, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman said that modern research was increasingly complex. No single individual or institution possesses all the knowledge, equipment, and techniques required. He said that the accord with NILOP would further strengthen the research activities of GCU Psychics Department, Centre for Advanced Studies in Physics and Chemistry Department.
