Earlier, Director FIA of Lahore Waqar Haider appeared before the court along with members of a joint investigation team and said serious efforts were made to arrest the culprit but more time was required. He said raids had been conducted at possible hideouts of Malik but he was still at large. Expressing displeasure over poor performance of the officials Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi remarked that all authorities concerned will be sent to jail if the accused was not arrested.
Justice Naqvi directed DG FIA to appear in person on December 12 and explain his position. The court also directed the Agency to register FIRs on fresh applications filed by affected persons of the 'visa consultancy' firm, the Future Concern. The court was informed that 64 cases had been registered against the accused so far.
In this case, the court had already ordered FIA to confiscate assets of Asim Malik and his dependants and also put his name on Exit Control List (ECL). The petitioners pleaded that they had given money to the company's chief executive officer for going abroad but they were defrauded and Malik neither sent them abroad nor returned their money, they added.
