Chairman Senate Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari called on Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh. Chairman Senate conveyed the greetings of the Pakistani leadership and people to the Indian Prime Minister. He said that the democratic government in Pakistan attached high priority to creating a stable and prosperous neighbourhood and a national consensus existed on improving relations with India.

The Chairman Senate said that the destinies of the two countries were entwined and the two countries have to work together for mutual progress, prosperity and peace as well as of the entire region. He said that being the representative of the people, the parliaments of the two countries had the responsibility to work towards the improvement of bilateral relations.

Welcoming the Chairman Senate and his delegation, Indian Prime Minister stated that closer relations between the parliaments was necessary for strengthening bilateral relations and this visit would make a significant contribution in this regard. He said that India and Pakistan were neighbours with shared civilisation, history and culture. Welcoming the resumption of dialogue process, Prime Minister said that India would like to see a strong, stable and prosperous Pakistan and was happy to see democracy flourish over there. Chairman Senate is on a visit to India on the joint invitation of Chairman Rajya Sabha Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Speaker Lok Sabha Meira Kumar from 5-10 December 2012.
