Provincial Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussein has said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has become first province that had formulated policy for the eradication of the menace of corruption and stressed the boycott of corrupt elements. Addressing a seminar on 'Good Governance through eradication of corruption' here at Nishtar Hall Peshawar on Thursday, he said that corruption has created destructive situation which has damaged the existence of country.

Chief Secretary Ghulam Dastagir Akhtar, Director General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Colonel Khurshid Alam (Retd), Director Anti Corruption, Syed Fayaz Ali Shah and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Peshawar Dr Abdul Mateen also expressed their views on the subject in detail.

He said it is the need of the hour to eradicate corruption through collective efforts and every one should have to play his vital role in this regard. Moreover, he said that financial corruption was not the only way of corruption, but the irresponsibility of official works and dishonesty were also the shapes of corruption. Mian Iftikhar Hussein said unfortunately corruption has become a most dangerous part of our society, adding no department or organisation is clean of it. He said that the corruption could be eradicated only through making the system corruption free. It is the need to communicate this message honestly to the whole society.

The Provincial Minister accepted that unluckily our society was being ruled on adhocism for the last 65 years. Our country has come into existence in the name of Islam, but neither we implement the Islamic system; nor have become the socialist and real democratic. Resultantly, we are going down day by day. He said that democracy was the best system for our country and a big change could be brought through the good leadership. The Information Minister said that personally he was against corruption and every type of social evils and not only he raised his voice against that but he has initiated practically to get rid of that.

Director General NAB while appreciating the three years anticorruption strategy of the Government of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has said these initiatives of the provincial government were follow-able by the other provinces of the country. He also highlighted the efforts of NAB to eradicate corruption and said the NAB was working successfully for the eradication of corruption with the co-ordination of Information and Education Departments. The campaign was also continuing against corruption at district level with the assistance of educational institutes, he concluded.
