"The efforts of specific committee formed under supervision of Pakistan's Foreign Minister regarding the issue, remained unproductive for the repatriation of my sister", said Ms Fauzia while speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday. She sought that government should use effective diplomatic means and write a letter to US authorities for immediate repatriation of her sister.
Accompanied by the president of International Action Centre, Sara Flounders, and Ms Cynthia McKinney of the Democratic Party, she viewed that Pakistani government had not made any diplomatic contact yet for repatriation of her sister, which was imperative for early release of Dr Aafia. Dr Fauzia proposed that all political parties should play their role for repatriation of her sister by putting pressure on incumbent government to make serious efforts for repatriation of her sister. "A mutual agreement would also be signed among different political and liberal parties in this regard", she informed. She said that US rights' activists and citizens are against the illegal trial of Dr Aafia: a movement was also launched to acquit her from the case.
Criticising the PPP-led coalition government, she said rulers have busied to mint dollars by killing innocent people in unauthorised US drone attacks, and military operations in tribal region. "The trial against Dr Aafia is totally illegal and unjustified as she was guilty for nothing and extremely torturing during her imprisonment, said Ms Cynthia McKinney of the Democratic Party. She added that no charge against her was proved against yet, despite sentence by local court her for 83 years.
Ms McKinney said no evidence was proved under which she has been given the sentence, while nobody was allowed to be present during her testifying in the US local court. She urged the Pakistani government to take effective steps for early repatriation of Dr Aafia, adding that her confinement is against the basic human rights.
