Work is in full swing to complete Pakistan's first world class Industrial Park on time. Although management is shy in disclosing the exact date of completion, efforts are on to ensure that the ambitious project sees the light of the day as soon as possible.

Funded by the federal government and Al-Barka Bank, Korangi Creek Industrial Park, Karachi, (KCIP) is a flagship project of National Industrial Parks Development & Management Company (NIP), a company set up under section 42 of the Companies Ordinance 1984, which envisages establishment and management of world class industrial parks all over the country.

The project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 3.3 billion which will have an investment opportunity of Rs 20 billion and potential to contribute Rs 40 billion annually to GDP. The KCIP project will also be able to provide approximately 30,000 direct and 180,000 indirect employment's to the residents of Karachi.

The KCIP project has been designed by Jurong Singapore, renowned internationally for their expertise whereas Nespak with wide experience in this field is given the responsibility for subsequent architectural design, engineering services and construction supervision of the project.

According to a KCIP spokesman, the infrastructure work is in its final phase of completion. Water supply and waste water connection networks both external & internal have been completed. 600 meters access road & entrance gate have been constructed with complete sewerage network dedicated manholes for each plot in the park. Main power distribution and road lighting, underground networks are nearing completion. Main arterial roads & storm water drainage system phase - I, and external & internal industrial distribution gas network have been completed.

NIP has also completed construction of 2.8 million gallons underground water reservoir, 50,000 gallons overhead reservoir, pumping station along with back-up generator, underground 14.7 mmcfd gas for its 48 MW captive power plant for industrial use has already been sanctioned by SSGC, while KWSB has sanctioned water supply of 3.5mgd. A full fledged site office is operational to provide all the information and assist visitors & entrepreneurs for a detailed brief on the project.

The project offers entrepreneurs with guaranteed uninterrupted power supply through 48 MW captive power plant and all essential utilities like water, gas and telecommunication at the customer's doorstep. The hallmark of this industrial zone is perimeter wall with controlled entry and exit to the complex spreading over an area of 250 acres at Korangi Creek offering a safe and secure environment to the industrialists.

The Park has zones namely low density and high density zones. The low density zones cater for industrial sectors including garments, consumer food, pharmaceutical, vale-added garments/textiles, printing/packaging and light engineering. The high density zone is reserved for high-rise flattened factories, multi-story commercial complex including banks, multinationals, corporate offices, besides a dedicated gems and jewellery workshops & sales centre and Information Technology centre.

The Company will establish its own estate management for the upkeep & maintenance of the park under the control of Board of Management of resident industrialists. Provision of all utilities, compliance to environment standards, and security of the park will be the responsibility of its management team with assistance of the KCIP customers. To curb the menace of real estate speculation each entrepreneur is committed to build the industry as per prescribed timeline, failing which the plot would be cancelled and sold to the next prospective buyer in the queue by NIP.

"It gives us immense pleasure & pride to announce that very soon our valued customer shall begin the ground breaking for initiating construction of their industries at KCIP clearances etc, through its own window operation system," the spokesman said. NIP has a dedicated team assigned to ensure that its customers are saved from going through cumbersome, time consuming visits and dealings with multiple government agencies at multiple locations to fulfil the legal formalities, paperwork & permissions.

The Company is assisted & guided by PIDC & Ministry of Production and enjoys co-operation from the office of the CEO, Cantonment Board Korangi Creek, Director General & Director, Military Lands & Cantonments, Board of Revenue, Government of Sindh, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board, Sui Southern Gas Company, Sind Environmental Protection Agency (Sepa) and City District Government Karachi, all of whom have given their whole hearted support to NIP in making this project a reality. The spokesman thanked all of them and welcomed customers on board.
