  • Comments Off on Kite-flying permission: LHC seeks reply from chief secretary
The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought reply from chief secretary Punjab in a petition seeking permission of Basant (kite-flying) festival in the province within fortnight. Earlier, a written reply was submitted on behalf of secretary local government stating that lives of masses could not be put at risk for the pleasure of only a handful of people.

The reply stated that massive loss of precious lives had forced provincial government to put a complete ban on kite-flying in 2007. The reply was submitted in response to a petition filed by an office-bearer of Kite-Flying Association Muhammad Saleem. The petitioner said that Supreme Court had imposed the ban on kite-flying but the court had also defined certain parameters for the purpose.
