Two policemen including a Sub-Inspector were killed and three other sustained injuries in a terrorist attack on police mobile in Shahab Khel, a suburban locality of the provincial metropolis on Monday. The police mobile van was on routine patrol in the area, when it came under attack as an explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unknown miscreants blew up. The vehicle was destroyed.

The explosion resulted in the death of Sub-Inspector, Tajamul Khan and Constable Ibrar while three others including the driver, Habib-ur-Rehman and constables Fayyaz and Farooq sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) for treatment. After the incident, law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Later, the funeral prayers of the deceased Sub-Inspector, Tajamul Khan and Constable Ibrar were offered in the lawn of Malik Saad Police Lane, which Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar also attended as well as senior minister, Rahimdad Khan, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Akbar Khan Hoti and a larger number of officers and jawans of the police force.

Meanwhile, talking to representatives of the media, the Governor said that though headway had been made during the past few years to equip the police force with modern gadgets yet there was a need to provide it with more sophisticated gadgets and latest equipment, keeping in view the nature of the circumstances.

He also expressed the confidence that some solid initiatives in this regard would be taken in the near future especially to meet the immediate needs of the force. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussein visited LRH and inquired about the health of the injured. Talking to the media on the occasion, the provincial minister strongly condemned the bomb attack on the police mobile at Shahabkhel village in Badhber area of Peshawar and termed it a wild act of terrorism.

Expressing deep grief and sorrow over the incident, he expressed heartiest sympathies with the heirs of the victims of the explosion and prayed for early recovery of those injured in the incident. He said that they saluted the courage and bravery with which the personnel of the police force were battling with the terrorists. He said that terrorists through their acts, targeting the police, general public and sacred places, harassed the people. The provincial minister visited each and every injured in the hospital and inquired about their health and directed for provision of better treatment facilities to them.
