Car snatchers and robbers rule the roost in Islamabad and snatched eight vehicles while robbers/dacoits struck at seven different places of the Capital city last week. The rising incidents of car lifting and robberies in the Capital have created a sense of scare among the people, in spite of tall claims by the police that criminals have been eradicated from the Capital.

According to data gathered by Business Recorder during the last week Women Police Station registered two cases of robbery and Sabzi Mandi Police Station registered two cases of car lifting. Similarly, Ramana, Barakhu and Industrial Area Police Station registered one case each of robbery and carjacking during the last week. In the same period Kohsar and Ternol Police Station police station registered one case each of robbery. During the last week Margalla and Bani Gala Police Station registered one case each of car lifting.

A police official said that ratio of crime will further increase as car lifters and robbers are doing their business openly in the city due to ineffective planning of the city police. The theft of the eight vehicles and looting of seven houses in just seven days belies the claims of police as it means that the criminals are still doing their business fearlessly.

He said that due to poor performance of police criminals especially car lifters' gangs are gaining strength with each passing day. Most of the carjacking incidents are taking place in the city urban areas, but police high ups have failed to make any plan and control the rising car lifting so far.

He also said that the police complaint cell is receiving a number complaints everyday mostly from the city rural areas that the police stations located in these areas treat citizens rudely and do not register FIRs to show good performance to their bosses.
