The top guns of Ministry of Health are reportedly ignoring the corruption of Registrar National Council for Tibb (NCT), an attached department of the Ministry, for alleged involvement in leakage of examination papers, Business Recorder has learnt.

According to the inquiry report conducted by the ministry, of which a copy is available with this correspondent, the involvement of Syed Ahmed Iqbal Registrar NCT in the leakage of papers for Tibb examination held in 2006 has been established. "Despite established fact about Registrar's corruption, Health Ministry has not taken any action to terminate his services," well placed sources maintained.

Sources in the Ministry commenting on the issue said that the question regarding his corruption was raised at the floor of the National Assembly and subsequently an inquiry was conducted against him. The complainant against the Registrar was President NCT, Hakeem Rizwan Hafeez Malik. The Ministry appointed Assistant Director (Homoeo) Dr Jamil Akhtar Ghauri as inquiry officer to probe into the allegations of the papers leakage. The inquiry officer after conducting the inquiry submitted a 235 page report to the high officials of the Ministry.

"After examining the on oath statements and cross-examination of above mentioned senior most office-bearers of the NCT and scrutinising the record, it has been established that Syed Ahmed Iqbal, Registrar NCT is a responsible for the leakage of papers of Tibb examination 2006", the report states.

The report further states that Registrar NCT was routinely threatening junior staff, besides misbehaving with them. According to documents the official was appointed by the NCT to run the day-to-day matters of the council, but he did not take any interest in these matters.

According to records in the Health Ministry the president NCT sent many letters to the Health Ministry for the removal of the said official, but he managed to secure his position by using his influence. In this regard when BR contacted Syed Ahmed Iqbal Registrar NCT he acknowledged that the Ministry conducted an inquiry against him in 2006. However, he said that on the directive of then Secretary Health, Anwar Mahmood another inquiry was conducted in which he was declared innocent. This correspondent requested him to provide the copy of that inquiry report, but did not receive any response till the filing of this report.
