Efforts are being made to normalise the situation in the violence-hit Kurram Agency of the tribal belt as security forces has started patrolling of the area. The personnel of Kurram Militia, Kurram Levies and officials of political administration have started patrolling the main highway between Chappari, Sadda and Parachinar.

The security forces had increased the number of posts in Parachinar and the forces carried out four flag staff marches in the town on Saturday. Political Agent Zaheerul Islam, while briefing the media has said that situation in Parachinar was well under control, adding the people of the agency have gained confidence after he visit of Governor Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai to Parachinar where he talked to Jirgas of elders and urged them to intensify efforts for bringing peace and stability to the area.

He said negotiations initiated by a jirga comprising elders of Hangu, an adjacent district of NWFP were in progress while warring factions have also been agreed on the formation of a grand Jirga to establish the root causes of eruption of the fighting and identify the culprits.

The political agent appreciated the role of the security forces in bringing normalcy to the town and protecting life and properties of the innocent citizens. The Political Agent expressed the confidence that efforts of the administration, the security forces and elders would certainly bring total normalcy to the agency shortly.

Meanwhile, on the directive of the NWFP governor, 50 tonnes of relief goods, including edibles for the locally displaced people are being airlifted to Parachinar.

The consignment includes blankets, tents, jerry canes and warm cloths besides atta, sugar, rice, ghee and milk. The chairman of Pakistan Red Crescent Society Fata chapter on behalf of the governor at Parachinar distributed the first consignment of the relief goods. The displaced people are mostly women and children. Gift were also distributed among the children on behalf of the NWFP governor.
