Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Punjab University Professor Dr Muhammad Arif Butt assumed the charge of vice-chancellor here on Monday. After taking the charge Professor Dr Butt held a meeting of Deans' Committee to discuss and review a plan in relating to upgrade the academic and research activities of the university.

Paying rich tribute to the services of former VC Arshad Mahmood, the newly vice-chancellor Professor Arif Butt recognised and appreciated his performance. During the occasion the vice-chancellor urged all departments of the university to develop their respective database so that a consolidated database of the university could be developed. The VC stressed that the university must improve its relations with the HEC, Chancellors' office, Chief Minister and other higher education bodies concerned.

He also informed the members of the committee that the Punjab government had committed to grant funds to meet the shortfall in the university budget. He stressed the need to tap the potential of Alumni Associations and Endowment Fund that would help enhance university resources besides helping its graduates in job placements.
