President General Pervez Musharraf has reiterated that fair and impartial election will be conducted in the year 2007. He said this in an address to women here at the Chief Minister House Karachi on Wednesday. The President said, "Al1 women should vote for the progressive forces and reject the extremist forces."

He said Election 2007 will be very important and all moderate forces should unite and mobilise the forces especially the women who constitute more than 50 percent and whose opinion matter a lot. He said they need to act independently and work against the extremists forces as these forces will take us centuries back.

Speaking on the occasion he said that Women Protection Bill (WPB) is a very futuristic, and it is only the beginning. Next step will be the emancipation of women, with the aim to bring them on equality level.

In emancipation of women five areas will be improved. These are empowerment of women Amendment of laws, Unjust Social practices, gender mainstreaming and violence against women.

"Women will be empowered politically and economically to improve their condition," said the President. Talking about unjust social practices, he said social practices that need to be changed are inheritance laws, forced marriages, Nikah with Quran, Vani and law of divorce.

He congratulated all women on the passing of the bill and said that all parliamentarians need praise for supporting the bill and giving the cause of country more importance than their personal benefits.

Talking about the bill, he said Bill is in accordance with Islam and in accordance with the vision of Quaid-i-Azam and Allama Iqbal who gave real guidance to the wishing. This is passed in consultation with Council of Islamic Ideology who has the authority to decide about right and wrong.

He mentioned that in passing of the bill we had to deal with religious extremists and liberal extremists, so considering the opinion of all only those elements are touched that were doing gross injustice to women.

In the end he said it was a great opportunity to address the women of Sindh as it is a progressive province and playing a lead role in the development of the country. Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Sindh Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim and Central Information Minister of Women Development Sumera Malik and Dr Saeeda Malik were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, renowned religious leader, Maulana Tariq Jameel called on President Pervez Musharraf here at Chief Minister House. According to a Chief Minister House statement Maulana Tariq Jameel discussed matters of mutual interest with the President. Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim were also present on this occasion.
