President General Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday said that a permanent settlement of the decades-old Kashmir dispute is only possible if it takes into account wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiri people. The President made these remarks at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, while talking to the leaders of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC).

President Musharraf said that a resolution of the Kashmir dispute has to be acceptable to all three parties - Pakistan, India and Kashmiris.

He also invited Kashmiri leaders to share their ideas with Pakistan with a view to finding an early peaceful final settlement of the longstanding dispute.

The Kashmiri leaders thanked the government and people of Pakistan for warm reception and hospitality accorded to them.

The President reaffirmed Pakistan's diplomatic, moral and political support to the struggle of the Kashmiri people for self-determination. He informed them about the sincere efforts being made by Pakistan to seek a final settlement of the dispute.

The President said that status quo is unacceptable to Pakistan and there has to be forward movement so that the legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiri people are realised. The President assured the Kashmiri leaders that as always Pakistan would continue to consult the "true representatives of Kashmiri people before taking any major measures on Kashmir issue.

They expressed their full confidence in the sincere efforts being undertaken by President Musharraf in projecting the Kashmir cause. The Kashmiri leaders thanked the President for Pakistan's continued diplomatic, moral and political support for their just cause.

They shared their assessment of the ground situation in occupied Kashmir with the President and sought Pakistan's support for the Kashmiris inclusion in the Pakistan-India dialogue process.

Later, the President hosted a banquet for the Kashmiri leaders.
