Six persons, including a police constable, a guard, two worshipers and two attackers were killed and 24 others injured when suicide bombers tried to storm an Imambargah here Monday evening. One of the attackers was injured and arrested. According to eyewitnesses and police, three terrorists attacked worshipers at Madinat-ul-Ilm Imambargah in Gulshan-e-Iqbal at Maghrib prayers. They killed the policeman on guard at the mosque and snatch his official SMG. Other policemen shot at them and killed two of them but in the exchange of fire attackers also wounded two policemen.

The bomber ran inside during the shoot-out and blew himself up killing one man on the spot while injuring many. The actual count of injured could not be ascertained till filling of this report. Immediately after the incident, unrest spread throughout the city as people protesting against the act of terrorism took to the street. Protestors burnt three petrol pumps, two laboratories, one KFC outlet, more than 20 shops and 18 vehicles till the filling of this report.

The wave of unrest spread allover the city and sensitive areas such as Guru Mandir roundabout, Patel Para, Business Recorder road, Numaish chowrangi, Rizvia society, Gulbahar, Incholi, Malir and its adjoining areas, Jaffarabad, Kharadar, Nazimabad and Gulshan-e-Iqbal were tense till late night.

Within minutes of the attack, the city wore a deserted look and at places such as National Highway and Super Highway, traffic jams were seen.

DIG Manzoor Mughal has said after the arrest of the attacker, the police has almost reached the culprits. "The terrorists would be arrested soon," he said.

After the attack, it was chaos all around and mutilated body parts were littered all over the floor of the mosque. Walls of the mosque were riddled with bullets and blood was flowing all around.

The dead bodies were shifted to JPMC and Liaquat National Hospital.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has expressed grief over the loss, of lives and injuries to people in incident of terrorism in Karachi on Monday.

Condemning these incidents, the governor ordered authorities to immediately investigation into the matter and take those involved in such incidents to task and use the best of their capabilities in this regard.
