The Pakistan Academy of Letters has nominated prominent poetess & writer Ada Jafri for Kamal-e-Fun Award for the year 2003.

The decision was taken at a meeting held here at the Pakistan Academy of Letters on Tuesday. Eminent writer Sharif Kunjahi presided over the meeting.

The panel of judges consisted of well-known writers, Sharif Kunjahi, Mushfiq Khwaja, Fateh Muhammad Malik, Dr Saleem Akhtar, Muhammad Nawaz Tahir, Dr Naimatullah Gichki, Dr Anwar Ahmed and Dr Fahmida Hussain.

Kamal-e-Fun Award is the highest literary award in the field of literature for recognition of lifetime's achievement in creative literary work. The recipient of the award also gets Rs 0.5 million cash prize.

Previously, this award was presented to Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi in 1997, Intizar Hussain (1998), Mushtaq Ahmed Khan Yosufi (1999), Shaukat Siddiqi (2001) and Munir Niazi in 2002.

Pakistan Academy of Letters has also announced National Literary Award for 2002 on writing best literary books in various languages, including Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi, Seraiki and English. Each of the recipients of the National Literary Award will be given Rs 50,000.

According to the decision of the panel, Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal Award is given to Zia Jalandhri on his Urdu poetry's book "Dam-e-Subuh", while Babai-e-Urdu Dr Maulvi Abdul Haq Award has been given to Intizar Hussain and Bano Qudsia on writing Urdu prose "Shaharzad Ke Naam" and "Dast Basta" respectively.

Waris Shah Award has been given to Ahmed Rahi on writing best book of Punjabi poetry "Nimi Nimi Wa" while Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Award was given to Dr Fahmida Hussain on her Sindhi book "Adabi Tanqeed Jo Fun Ain Tareekh."

Ayaz Daudzai is the recipient of Khushal Khan Khattak Award on writing "Adabi Hasey" in Pashto language.

Khwaja Farid Award was gone to Aslam Qureshi on his book 'Kakraand' which is in Seraiki language, while Mast Touq Ali Award is given to M.S Azad on writing Baluchi book "Tunapeen Taran."

Patras Bukhari Award for English poetry has gone to Kamila Shamsie for her poetic collection 'Kartography'.

Pakistan Academy of Letters has also announced Taj Muhammad Tajal Award in Baruhi language. It is given to M. Salahuddin Mengal on his book "Fatima Jinnah". The meeting decided that the National Literary Award in Baruhi language would be given on regular basis.
