In a shocking incident of broad daylight robbery, unidentified dacoits deprived a woman of gold bangles and cash in the heart of the federal capital. The incident took place here at sector I-8/2, outside house number 240, street 31, within the jurisdiction of Industrial Area Police Station, at around 2:30pm, according to police sources. A video footage of the incident that was recorded by CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras installed in the area where the crime took place suggested that a woman stopped her vehicle outside her home and was approaching the house's main gate when two armed robbers riding a motorbike, who were following the victim, intercepted her.

The dacoits stopped the victim from entering the house and pointed their weapons at her. The robbers can be seen in the footage asking the victim to hand them her possessions. They forced the victim to give them her two gold bangles and a purse containing cash and other valuables. After the robbery, the robbers fled comfortably from the busy street.

When contacted, SHO Industrial Area Chaudhry Rashid Ahmad confirmed the incident. He said the registration number of the motorbike that was used in the robbery could not be traced since the related CCTV footage was not very clear. He said the police suspected that the woman was followed by the dacoits from I-8 Markaz when she went to an ATM to withdraw cash and visited another bank for the payment of her child's education fee. "A case of robbery is being registered and a hunt has been launched to nab the culprits.

The footages from CCTV cameras installed at nearby homes and at the banks are being obtained which would be thoroughly examined to identify the culprits," he said. The SHO said police pickets had been set up around the nearby areas of Faizabad, 9th Avenue and IJP Road to track down the suspects. For the last few months, crime rate has seen an alarming rise in the federal capital. The incidents of armed robberies, theft, kidnapping for ransom, car and bike snatching as well child abduction have increased manifolds with police and other law enforcement agencies failing to address this challenge.

On Monday, Senate Standing Committee on Interior held a detailed meeting and took stock of rising number of crime incidents in Islamabad. The committee expressed strong concern over increasing number of heinous crimes and took a detailed briefing from Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad Police Amir Zulfiqar Khan about the steps being taken to curb crime rate in the federal capital.
