BRIndex30 increased by 304.43 points or 1.75 percent to close at 17,703.71 points with a turnover of 89.752 million shares. The KSE-100 Index surged by 628.56 points or 1.99 percent to close at 32,184.03 points. Trading activity also improved as daily volumes on the ready counter increased to 136.566 million shares as compared to 99.363 million shares traded Wednesday.
The market capitalization increased by Rs 82 billion to Rs 6.409 trillion. Out of total 357 active scrips, 263 closed in positive, only 72 in negative while the value of 22 stocks remained unchanged.
Lotte Chemical was the volume leader with 15.508 million shares. However, it lost Re 0.10 to close at Rs 14.57 followed by Pak Int. Bulk that gained Re 0.73 to close at Rs 7.76 with 7.995 million shares. Wyeth Pak and Archroma Pak were the top gainers with Rs 28.00 and Rs 20.00, respectively to close at Rs 678.00 and Rs 480.00. Sapphire Fiber and Rafhan Maize were the top losers with Rs 36.04 and Rs 11.00, respectively to close at Rs 684.90 and Rs 5,700.00.
BR Automobile Assembler Index gained 49.72 points or 1.04 percent to close at 4,838.75 points with total turnover of 1.014 million shares.
BR Cement Index increased by 75.07 points or 2.82 percent to close at 2,732.49 points with 14.401 million shares. BR Commercial Banks Index closed at 7,676.17 points, up 74.01 points or 0.97 percent with 8.227 million shares.
BR Power Generation and Distribution Index surged by 145.97 points or 3.37 percent to close at 4,479.73 points with 10.772 million shares.
BR Oil and Gas Index inched up by 73.72 points or 2.06 percent to close at 3,644.01 points with 15.283 million shares. BR Tech. & Comm. Index gained 15.65 points or 2.39 percent to close at 670.01 points with 16.159 million shares.
Ahsan Mehanti at Arif Habib Corporation said that the stocks closed bullish amid higher trades as investor weigh surge in global crude oil prices and government resolve for privatization of SOEs. He said strong financial results in energy sector and speculations on likely resolve for GIDC issue next week by SC played a catalytic role in bullish close.
