Prime Minister Imran Khan Wednesday performed groundbreaking of Prefabricating Housing Project to provide affordable houses to the ordinary people in the shortest possible time. Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, the Prime Minister said the project will help provide affordable houses. He said that prefabricated houses will be established in big cities like Karachi and Lahore where many people have been residing in shanties and land is extremely expensive there.

He said that prefabricated houses can be set up within three to four months. He said that housing, agriculture, exports and relocation of industry from China are the top priorities of the government. Emphasizing raise in productivity in agriculture sector, the Prime Minister said that enhanced agricultural production will have impact on economic growth and increase in exports will enhance foreign exchange reserves.

He said that the Board of Investment (BOI), Ministry of Commerce and other relevant departments are taking steps to make investment in Pakistan easy and fully facilitate the business community. The plant for Easy Prefabricated Homes is being set up by leading Chinese company Henan DR Construction Group in M-3 Special Economic Zone.

In her remarks, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Sania Nishtar pointed out that Ehsaas is unique for three reasons. One, with currently 134 policies and programme elements, Ehsaas is the most ambitious umbrella initiative the Pakistani government has ever undertaken aimed at social protection and poverty alleviation, she added. She said that it takes a multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder approach, recognizing the importance of the private sector, civil society and multi-sectoral across-government collaboration. Thirdly, she stated that Ehsaas is embedded in a theory of change, reflected in four pillars: action against elite capture; safety nets; livelihoods and jobs; and human capital formation with a focus on lagging areas.
