For the first time, Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Reza Baqir is leading a delegation to Asia Pacific Group (APG) to fight Pakistan''s case to get the country off the Financial Action Task Force''s grey list.

The ''APG Annual Meeting and Technical Assistance and Training Forum'' is being held in Canberra, Australia, from 18-23 August 2019, which is the primary policy and decision-making vehicle for the APG.

A senior SBP official told Business Recorder on condition of strict anonymity that in recent history, the governor SBP has never led any delegation to APG and it is for the first time that incumbent Governor Reza Baqir is leading the country''s delegation to the annul meeting of the APG.

A senior government official who is accompanying the delegation told Business Recorder that it is just the Mutual Evaluation Report of Pakistan which will be adopted at the plenary.

The delegation comprises senior officials of the Finance Ministry, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and Financial Monitoring Unit.

The delegation will reportedly present its 21-page report before the APG regarding the measures which have been taken to prevent money laundering and terror financing, besides other recommendations. The report has collectively been prepared by five institutions and implementation on 16 objectives will be analysed. The FATF gave the government a 27-point action plan and said it must make progress on it by August 13, 2019.
