Religious, Tourism and Heritage Committee, which is headed by Governor Punjab Mohammad Sarwar, has recommended to the government to allow double entry visa facility to 10,000 Sikh pilgrims on the occasion of 550th birthday of Baba Guru Nanak Jee.

The recommendation was made in a meeting of the committee held here at Governor House on Friday. Among others, Federal Ministers Sheikh Rasheed, Noor ul Haq Qadri, Chairman Evacuee Trust Board Ameer Ahmar, Secretary Religious Affairs Zulfiqar Ghumman, representatives of FWO and other officials attended the meeting.

It was decided that "Tent City" will also be established in Nankana Sahab. All departments, including Police, have been instructed to arrange fool proof arrangements in connection with birthday of Baba Guru Nanak Jee.

The Committee was also briefed about the arrangements made by Pakistan Railways for birth anniversary. It was decided to complete renovation of Nankana Sahib Railway Station by November. It was decided that the Punjab government will allocate funds worth Rs150 million for developmental projects in Nankana Sahib before the commencement of the birth celebrations of Baba Gurunanak Jee.

While addressing the meeting, the Governor Sarwar said that all tourists coming to Pakistan from around the World including Sikh Pilgrims will be provided foolproof security along with all required facilities. For the completion of Kartarpur Corridor, a focal person will be appointed to seek cooperation of Sikh community. Pakistan has rich religious heritage which includes Hindu, Sikh and other religions which has no precedence in the world, he said.

The Governor said that Pakistan is taking steps to complete developmental projects of Kartarpur Corridor as soon as possible. However, the non serious attitude of India is creating hurdles for people to people contacts.

It may be noted that the PTI government has earmarked Rs1,000 million for the development of Kartarpur in the Federal Budget 2019-20. The funds will be used for land acquisition and development of infrastructure of Kartarpur under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the next financial year 2019-20.

The Kartarpur Corridor will connect Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan's Narowal district with Dera Baba Nanak in India's Gurdaspur. Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Narowal district of Pakistan's Punjab province holds religious significance for the Sikh community. It is where Baba Guru Nanak settled down after his travels as a missionary. He lived there for 18 years until his death in 1539.

In November last year, Prime Minister Imran Khan had laid the foundation stone for the corridor. Former Indian cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, the then Indian Minister for Food Harsimrat Kaur Badal and the then Indian Minister for Housing Hardeep S. Puri had attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
