Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Shabbar Zaidi Wednesday reviewed the budget proposals (2019-20) of the Sales Tax Officers Association of Pakistan (STOAP) with the objective to arrest decline in sales tax collection during current and next fiscal years. A delegation of the STOAP, headed by Raza Ashfaq Sheikh President of the association, here on Wednesday met with the FBR Chairman in his chamber at FBR House.

The FBR Member Inland Revenue Policy and FBR Chief Management were also present at the meeting. During the meeting, a detailed presentation was given to FBR Chairman relating to the issues causing a steep decline in sales tax collection. The officers presented a detailed and comprehensive solution for the growth of sales tax. FBR Chairman appreciated the budget proposals presented by the association.

During the meeting, the issues relating to career progression of sales tax workforce were also discussed in the meeting and it was decided by the chairman that a committee consisting of members of FBR and association shall be constituted at the earliest and the said committee will formulate career progression plan for the officers of sales tax with in 30 days of the constitution of committee and the same shall be implemented accordingly. The delegation welcomed the appointment of a professional as a new Chairman FBR and listened to the concerns shown by the STOAP Chairman regarding the career progression of disgruntled work force of sales tax.
