Under the flagship 'Ehsaas' programme of the Prime Minister, headed by Chairperson Poverty Alleviation & Coordination Council PACC Dr Sania Nishtar Labour Expert Group has been created to address the loopholes in the existing laws, and bring the informal workers inside the formal network, address exploitation of labour, and enforcement of minimum wage.

This expert group draws on the expertise of both the private and public sector. The Director of Labour Departments from all provinces is represented, along with members of different Federations that work for the welfare of the labour. The group also draws on the expertise of Labour Economists as well as multilateral organisations that are engaged in workers' rights. The overall objective of the group is to give recommendations that will introduce provisions of social safety for the informal working sector that will eventually lead to a robust implementation and enforcement of legislation, says a press release issued here on Wednesday.

Dr Sania emphasised on the need to address immediately labour issues and declared the creation of group as milestone to synergies the efforts being put in by various Federal and Provincial Departments to facilitate labour class in Pakistan. The expert group will hold frequent meetings with representation from all provinces to incorporate policy input from all quarters.-PR
