The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has fixed National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) appeals against acquittal of incarcerated former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment references for June 19. A division bench comprising Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani of IHC will take up the matter on June 19.

The accountability court had sentenced Sharif to seven years in prison and fined Rs 1.5 billion in Al-Azizia case on December 24. However, he was acquitted in Flagship corruption reference.

Sharif has challenged the accountability court's verdict in Al-Azizia case, seeking to set aside the conviction and seven-year imprisonment in the case.

The NAB moved two appeals in the IHC, challenging the verdicts in the Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment references. The top anti-graft body has requested the court to enhance Nawaz Sharif's sentence to 14 years in Al-Azizia corruption case besides striking down his acquittal in Flagship case.

In its appeal against Sharif's acquittal in Flagship reference, the top anti-graft body contended that the court's verdict is against the law and it should have been announced in light of the evidence placed on record. It has requested the court to declare the accountability court's decision in Flagship reference null and void.
