The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recovered Rs3million on head of token tax during a campaign against unregistered and non-payment of token in the province. It also removed more than 5,000 artificial number plates from vehicle in the drive. The two-day campaign was conducted on special instructions of Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zafar Ali Shah.

The department had recovered Rs3million on head token tax, besides it had taken action against eight unregistered vehicles, 220 non-registered motor bikes, seized 500 kilogram herion and removed 5,000 artificial number plates from vehicles. The operation was carried under supervision of the Director General Excise and Taxation, Fayyaz Ali Shah. The DG said that those government officials are not authorized to use green number plates, must be placed computerized number plates issued by provincial excise department.

The Official said that the crackdown would be conducted on daily basis across the province. He said the check posts of excise squads have been set up at entry and exist points at every district which will monitor the movement of vehicles on regular basis.

He said that elimination of unregistered, non-custom paid vehicles and fake number plates is mission of the department, adding that the excise team has performed duties around the clock to accomplish this mission. The Director General said that the department vision to restore lost reputation of number plates issued by provincial excise, taxation and narcotics control department for which it is eminent to conduct the operation in the province.

The official said that the vehicles, placing number plates by KP excise department were confronted with difficulties in other provinces due to vehicles plying with fake number plates, which was earned bad name for the province. Zafar Ali Shah, the Secretary Excise and Taxation, and Narcotics Control, said that the motor vehicle registration law must be implemented with letter and spirit.

He said that vehicle plying in any nook and corner of this province, should be registered in the light of the law as well as token tax needed to be payout on time. The Secretary Excise said that the artificial number plates are prohibited under the law so everyone must be placed number plates on their vehicles issued by the provincial excise department.
