Local police on Saturday registered a case against former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf's nephew and others for threatening to murder National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials during the arrest of the former secretary water and power in Rental Power Projects (RPPs) case at Friday night. The police registered a first information report (FIR) against Raja Daniyal, nephew of Ashraf, under the sections 506 (2), 186 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Deputy Director NAB Asad Masood Janjua.

According to details, the NAB team headed by Janjua raided the residence of former Secretary Water and Power Shahid Rafi in compliance with the arrest warrants issued by the NAB chairman on April 19. When the NAB team reached Rafi's residence located at Sector F-7, House #13, Street # 66, Daniyal, a close relative of the accused, along with other armed persons also arrived there and started interfering in police affairs and threatened to murder the NAB officials and escaped from the scene.

The NAB's deputy director requested to take legal action against Daniyal and others. The Accountability Court hearing the RPPs reference will indict Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and other accused on April 29. During the previous hearing, accused NA Zubairi and Ghulam Mustafa appeared before Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik, but the accused Ashraf, Abdul Majid and Shahid Rafi did not appear and skipped the hearing.

The court had issued directives to produce Ashraf and other accused before the court on the next hearing for their indictment in the reference. In this case, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and other accused allegedly misused their authority to get approval from the Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet for increase in down payment to the rental power companies from seven percent to 14 percent.
