Top ranking player Barkat Ullah of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa upset Afghanistan No. 1 Asad UIllah in the quarter-finals of the ongoing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tennis Open Championship being played here at Synthetic Courts of Qayyum Sports Complex on Wednesday. Known cardiologist Dr. Farhat Abbas was the chief guest on this occasion who witnessed the quarter-finals matches which produced great thrill.

In the first quarter-final match Barkat Ullah faced tough resistance at the hands of Afghanistan No. 1 Asad Ullah in the marathon three sets battle. The score of the match clearly indicated the struggled made by the two players for a single point. The score was 6-7 (6-6), 7-6 (6-6) and 6-4. The two promising players Barkat Ullah, hailing from Nawa Khali Peshawar and Asad Ullah, hailing from Afghanistan but was coached and trained by Directorate of Sports Coach Roman Gul, played well and exhibited some classic volleys, forceful smashes and strong services.

Pakistan No. 1 Aqeel Khan also witnessed the match and appreciated both the players for their tremendous display. He also lauded the Directorate General Sports KP for the construction of 10 different Tennis courts including six synthetic. It would further improve the game of the upcoming players because now they have the facility of playing on good courts, he added. In the other quarter-finals of the Men singles Ijaz Ahmad of Police defeated Abbas Khan of PAF by 7-5 (6-6), 1-6 and 6-3 and moved to the semi-finals.

In the other quarter-final Yousaf Khalil of PAF defeated Saqib Umar of SNGPL in a one-sided affairs, the score was 6-2 and 6-2. In the Under-14 quarter-final Kashan Umer of KP beat Haseeb Khan by 6-1 and 6-0 in a one-sided affairs, Hamza Roman of SNGPL defeated Taimur Khan of KP by 6-1 and 6-1 and moved to the semi-finals.

In the men doubles top seed Ijaz of Police and Barkat Ullah of PAF defeated Shahid Afridi and Shaheen Mehmood of KP by 6-3and 6-4, Yousaf Khalil and Shakir Ullah of KP beat Shaharyar and Azhar Iftikhar by 6-4 and 6-3 and moved to the semi-finals. In the above 35-year of age category doubles quarter-final Gul Hamid of Punjab and Zahir Rehman of KP defeated Amjad Nasir and Wakeel Khan of KP by 6-3 and 6-2.
