At least three people were killed as a three-story residential building collapsed in the Jaffar-e-Tayyar Society in neighborhood of Malir District here on Monday. The building collapsed at around 7:30 am. Several people got trapped under the debris. According to details around 20 to 25 people were residing in the building.

Following the incident, contingent of policemen and Rangers personnel, Pakistan Army officials and rescue teams were rushed to the site that took part in the operation with deploying heavy machinery to remove the rubble and recovered the people trapped under it.

The rescue officials said three bodies and three injured including a child have been recovered while the rescue work was still underway. The bodies and injured were transferred to a hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment.

Police officials said a house was under construction adjacent to the affected building and may have been a contributing factor.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and has sought a report immediately.

Sindh Governor Imran Ismail asked the authorities to save human lives at all costs. Such tragedies are a result of the poor performance of the Karachi Building Control Authority and Malir Development Authority, he alleged.

Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani said that rescue teams faced hardships to carry out heavy machinery to remove the debris at the spot due to the narrowness of nearby streets.
