In a briefing, the Petroleum Division said that Rs 50 billion theft is put under the head of Unaccounted for Gas (UFG) which is paid by consumers. The Prime Minister was further informed that only 10 percent gas users were affected by inflated gas bills while rest of consumers were passed on only 12 to 35 percent increase in gas prices despite importing expensive LNG and meeting other expenditure.
The Prime Minister was informed that 91 percent consumers were given subsidy to keep the gas bills at affordable level. The Prime Minister directed that the performance of managing directors of both gas companies would be judged through their control on UFG. Meanwhile, RLNG supply of PSO and PLL is likely to improve in the country. The PLL cargo has entered port channel at Karachi while PSO cargo will also berth after which supply of gas is likely to improve.
