The federal cabinet will approve Rs 1.689 million per month salary of Deputy Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Jameel Ahmad. Official sources told Business Recorder that Jameel Ahmad has been re-appointed as Deputy Governor (DG), for a period of 3 years from October 24, 2018.

The appointment of Deputy Governors, SBP is made under Sub-section (4) of the Section 10 of the State Bank of Pakistan Act, 1956, which states " one or more Deputy Governors may be appointed by the Federal Government for such period (not exceeding five years) and on such salary and such terms and conditions of service as the [Federal Government] may determine, except that neither the salary of a Deputy Governor nor his other terms and conditions of service shall be varied to his disadvantage after his appointment."

Sub-section 9 of Section 10 of SBP Act, 1956 says that the Governor and Deputy Governor shall on the expiry of their terms of office be eligible for re-appointment. The SBP has recommended last drawn monthly salary i.e. Rs.1,689,224/- to Jameel Ahmad, Deputy Governor with same terms and conditions as were allowed during his first term.

Finance Division considered the matter regarding salary package of Jameel Ahmad, and submitted that his monthly salary should be Rs.1, 689,224/- per month with an annual increment of10% of the monthly salary, in addition to transport, retirement benefits and other benefits (as per SBP Rules). The termination notice can be served one month by either party.

Secretary Finance, Arif Khan has proposed that the salary package and other terms and conditions may be allowed to Jameel Ahmad, Deputy Governor SBP. The cabinet will get a briefing from Dr. Ishrat Hussain about redundant public sector organisations. The cabinet will approve renewal of regular public transport airline licence to M/s Sial Limited with effect from September 5, 2018 to September 4, 2019.

Other agenda items are as follows: (i) appointment of Managing Director/ CEO Pak-Libya Holding Company Limited (PLHCL);(ii) nomination of external members on the Monetary Policy Committee by the federal government;(iii) improving efficiency, productivity and inter-ministerial communication in the government through E-Governance; (iv) National Anti- Narcotics Policy-2018;(v) appointment against the Post of Chairman, PQA; and (vi) transfer of Karachi Infrastructure Development Limited (KIDCL) from Communication Division to Cabinet Division. In addition, supplementary grant for few departments will also be approved.
