It is heartening to note that the apex court has reiterated that it will not compromise on the removal of encroachments; it has also made it clear that the court will not issue any order to halt operations against encroachments. "You should appreciate the removal of encroachments," the CJP has been quoted as telling the Advocate General Sindh.

About the rehabilitation of those whose shops have been demolished in anti-encroachment drive, the CJP stated that making alternative arrangements for them is the job of the government. It is quite unfortunate, however, that while the apex court is keen to make Karachi a better a city, there are some vested interests that have been found to be erecting hurdles in this regard. In response to AG's remarks that previous apex court orders were related to removal of encroachments from around historical Empress Market, the CJP has been quoted as saying that the court wanted to make removal of encroachments from Empress Market as an example in this regard. It is, however, also historic that encroachments from across the city are being removed on such a large scale. The city mayor Wasim Akhtar of MQM also deserves praise for leading the anti-encroachment drive in the city even at the risk of alienating his supporters.
