Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Thursday directed Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) to complete processing of pending sales tax refund claims by February 15, 2019 and issue rejection orders of inadmissible claims.

According to the FBR's instructions to the field formations here on Thursday, this is in pursuance of meeting held on 1st November, 2018 as chaired by minister for finance and revenue, and the decision made therein that outstanding sales tax refunds shall be liquidated.

All field formations are accordingly advised to expedite processing of pending sales tax claims through Sales Tax Automated Refund Repository (STARR) and complete the same by 15th February 2019, so that amount found payable under expeditious refund system (ERS) and STARR can be determined and considered for liquidation/payment by 1st March 2019. The field offices are also advised to issue rejection orders of the claims as per rules which are not found admissible so that dormant pendency in the system can be eliminated, added the FBR.
