Mithi, a city of Sindh, has been declared the most expensive in the country. According to the State Bank of Pakistan''s (SBP) Inflation Monitor, among 40 leading cities of the country Mithi recorded highest inflation during the first month of this fiscal year (FY19). Mithi registered 11.7 percent general CPI inflation (year-on-year basis) comprising 9.8 percent food and 12.8 percent non-food inflation in July 2018.

During the period under review, Rahim Yar Khan was the cheapest city as some 2.9 percent inflation was registered there. In Rahim Yar Khan, food inflation was minus 1.6 percent and non-food was 5.8 percent in July this year.

According to inflation monitor, during the last month, out of 40 leading cities, some 18 cities were ranked in the high inflated list while some 22 were placed in the list of low inflation cities.

CPI Inflation on year-on-year basis in federal and provincial capitals of Pakistan showed mixed trend during July 2018. Among five cities (Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar and Islamabad), the lowest inflation was observed in Islamabad at 4.9 percent while the highest inflation was observed in Quetta at 7.7 percent.

The inflation in Peshawar and Karachi was at 5.3 percent and at 6.7 percent respectively during the period under review. Capital of Punjab-Lahore witnessed 5.3 percent inflation comprising 3.6 percent food and 6.7 percent non-food.

D. I. Khan was the second highest inflated city as it observed some 11.6 percent CPI inflation. With 8 percent inflation, Loralai stands on third ranked in July 2018.

According to SBP''s inflation monitor headline CPI inflation (2007-08=100) is recorded at level of 5.8 percent on year-on-year basis in July 2018 as compared to 5.2 percent in the previous month and 2.9 percent during corresponding month of last year.

CPI inflation on month-on-month basis is recorded at level of 0.9 percent in July 2018 as compared to 0.6 percent in the previous month and 0.3 percent during corresponding month of last year. Seasonally adjusted month-on-month CPI inflation is recorded at 0.42 percent in July 2018 compared to 0.60 percent in the previous month.

Core inflation (trimmed) on year-on-year basis is recorded at 5.9 percent in July 2018 as compared to 5.4 percent in the previous month and 4.0 percent during corresponding month of last year.

On month-on-month basis, the Core inflation (trimmed) is recorded at 0.9 percent in July 2018 as compared to 0.2 percent in the previous month and 0.4 percent during corresponding month of last year.

Non-food, non-energy inflation measured by CPI Core (NFNE) on year-on-year basis is recorded at 7.6 percent in July 2018 as compared to 7.1 percent in the previous month and 5.6 percent during corresponding month of last year.
