The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday requested the media to ensure implementation of election code of conduct and not to broadcast polling results before 7:00pm on July 25. The decision has been taken during a meeting of Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Mohammad Saleem Baig and Executive Member of the Authority Ashfaq Jumani with Chief Election Commissioner former Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza and the ECP secretary.

The Pemra chairman informed the chief election commissioner about the progress in the implementation of code of conduct for the media. The Election Commission requested the media through Pemra to ensure implementation on its code of conduct for the media during the election. "Please make sure that no election results are broadcast before 7:00pm on polling day," the Election Commission said in a statement.

The Pemra chairman assured the election body of its full cooperation. The people will be able to cast their vote on July 25 from 8:00am to 6:00pm. The Election Commission said that it has set up a special media cell at the ECP Secretariat to provide timely and certified results of the constituencies on polling day.

Meanwhile, the Commission has declared 20,789 polling stations sensitive out of a total of 85,307 polling stations across the country.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has the highest number of sensitive polling stations, i.e, 7,386, followed by the Sindh where some 5,776 are declared vulnerable to attacks by rival groups, nationalists or militant elements.

The Punjab has a total of 5,686 sensitive polling stations whereas Balochistan houses 1,768 sensitive polling stations, according to the ECP.

A total of 173 polling stations out of the total 360 in Islamabad have been declared prone to clashes between rival groups in the forthcoming election, where a tough competition is expected between candidates of different political parties.
