The nomination papers were submitted with the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP), Rawalpindi office for NA-59 Rawalpindi, NA-63 Taxila and also for Punjab provincial assembly's PP-10 and PP-12. The nominee papers were submitted by Shaikh Aslam on behalf of the dissident PML-N leader who is on bed rest due to severe backache.
Nisar made the decision to submit the nomination papers the same day the party parliamentary board was interviewing candidates in Lahore in a meeting which was also attended by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif in which the party was expected to finalize the candidates. In a statement latter, Nisar lambasted the party's criterion of appearing before the board and described it as "childish" act not to grant a party ticket to him.
