The notice stated that SAI despite collecting FED on international and domestic tickets had failed to deposit the same into national exchequer by due date, ie, May 15, 2018. Therefore, the notice for attachment of bank accounts on immediate basis has been issued in order to recover the amount in favor of commissioner IR, Zone-V, LTU, Karachi.
In addition to the attachment of bank accounts, the LTU Karachi has also directed the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) to stop local flight operation under Federal Excise Act, 2005 read with Federal Excise Rules, 2005 till the said amount was recovered and intimation in this regard was issued to PCAA by the tax office.
When contacted, Zohaib Hassan, Director Marketing, Shaheen Air International (SAI) said that there was no dispute between the airline and the FBR over payments as this was a usual payment delay issue.
He stated "Our regular operations are on and flight schedule is quite normal. We are a law abiding corporate entity and we are aware of our duties and responsibilities. Shaheen Air pays millions of rupees every month in terms of taxes and clearing the outstanding amount on priority basis."
