Exports of textile group increased by 7.14 percent in February 2018 and reached US $1.066 billion from US $995.223 million for the same month a year ago, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Provisional trade data of selected commodities uploaded by the PBS on its website on Tuesday stated that there was growth of 28.04 percent in export of cotton yarn in February 2018, which reached $120.397 million from $94.029 million for the same month of the last fiscal year.

Export of cotton cloth registered an increase by 12.98 percent in February 2018 and reached $176.295 million over $156.037 million for the same month a year before while export of yarn other than cotton yarn increased by 52.44 percent, soaring to $2.282 million from $1.497 million. Export of knitwear increased by 13.43 percent in February 2018 to $200.807 million from $177.037 million for the same month of the last fiscal year while export of readymade garments increased by 7.79 percent to $212.968 million from $197.578 million during the period under review.

Growth of 20.89 percent was recorded by export of art, silk & synthetic textile with export increasing to $24.712 million in February 2018 from $20.442 million in February 2017, export of made-up articles, (excl. towels & bed wear) increased by 11.33 percent to $55.834 million from US $50.154 million and export of other textile increased by 0.61 percent to $33.34 million in February 2018 from $33.140 million for the same month of last fiscal year.

However, export of raw cotton decreased by 82.18 percent to $589,000 in February 2018 from $3.3 million in February 2017, export of bed wear went down by 3.27 percent to $171.65 million from $177.449 million and export of towel decreased by 9.26 percent to $64.364 million in February 2018 from $70.930 million as well as export of tents, canvas and tarpauline decreased by 77.85 percent to $3.015 million in February 2018 from $13.610 million in February 2017.

A growth of 7.17 percent was also recorded by export of textile group during the July-February 2018 over the same period of the last fiscal year with export increasing to $8.793 billion from $8.205 billion.

Export of raw cotton posted a growth of 38 percent to $55.551 million from $40.255 million during the period under review, cotton yarn export increased by 1.87 percent to $859.716 million from $843.953 million and cotton cloth export with 0.4 percent growth reached $1.425 billion from $1.424 billion in the last fiscal year.

Export of bed wear posted a growth of 4.51 percent during the aforementioned period with total export increasing to $1.477 billion in the current fiscal year from $1.413 billion for the same period of last fiscal year. Export of readymade garments posted a growth of 13.08 percent to $1.695 billion from $1.499 billion for the last fiscal year.
