A sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Energy has recommended to start work on installation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) air mix plants at Khuzdar and Musakhel districts of Balochistan immediately. The sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Energy (Petroleum Division) met here under convener Senator Sardar Muhammad Azam Musakhel on Wednesday.

The committee directed the management of Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL) to submit in written the details of funds being spent on various development projects of the company under its social responsibility. The committee also directed the company to take parliamentarians as members of the committee which recommends development funds for various schemes. The committee also discussed in detail the supply of gas to five union councils (nine villages) of district Bannu.

The issues of non-employment of locals, non-engagement of local vehicles and deforestation conducted by the OGDCL and gas exploring companies in Sevi-Ragha and Lakhray, district Musakhel, and Shakardar, Karak, as well as in Kohat came under discussion. Regarding the complaint of non-employment of locals, vehicles and deforestation conducted by the OGDCL and other gas exploring companies, the officials said the vehicles are being hired under the PPRA rules from pre-qualified companies. Besides, for compensation of losses to the crops and properties during the company operations, they are paid according to the DC's specified rates.

Azam Musakhel took serious note of the issue and sought report from the company within a week. Expressing displeasure over the inauguration of schemes of gas supply to five union councils in Bannu by MNA Akram Khan Durrani, the convener of the committee said that the senator who had made hectic efforts for over last three years regarding gas supply schemes must inaugurate the projects.

He directed the SNGPL that as Senator Baz Muhammad Khan had made countless efforts in connection with these schemes, so he should be taken in confidence regarding the schemes. The committee also discussed province-wise discussion regarding excessive billing due to GVC and super compressibility factor (SCF) during the last one year.
