Arif Yousuf Jeewa, Chairman, Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD), on Monday hailed the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan for allowing construction of buildings up to 6 floors in Karachi. According to details, he said that the decision of the apex court would have far-reaching impact on the construction industry especially in Karachi as thousands of people would regain job opportunities. He also hoped that the Supreme Court would revisit the decision of ban on high-rise buildings in the mega city soon, which led construction activities to a complete a halt, not only suspended Rs 900 billion investments but also increased unemployment, drastically.

Moreover, he said that the larger bench of the Apex Court under Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar discerned the gravity of the issue and allowed builders for constructing building up to 6 floors, which has given a sign of relief to the construction industry of the city. He lauded that the Supreme Court during the hearing had ordered the Sindh government and other departments concerned to take remedial measures in order to resolve water scarcity issue in Karachi. He also requested the Apex Court to revisit decision regarding the ban on high-rise building in order to avoid negative impacts on the national economy.
