Elders of Afridi tribe from the militancy-affected Tirah of Khyber Agency have asked the government to take practical steps for materializing the all commitments forthwith, which had made with the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of the valley, otherwise, they would launch a protest movement against it.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, Malik Naseeb Khan, elder of Malik Din Khel tribe of the agency said that the government didn't take tangible steps to mitigate the sufferings of the militancy-affected people after their return to Tirah valley of the Khyber Agency.

He said that a compensation amount of Rs 35000 was announced for each displaced family on return their hometown, which didn't fully payout to them. He criticized the authorities concerned for using delaying tactics in disbursement of the compensation amount and asked the high officials of relevant departments or agencies to take immediate notice.

Similarly, he said the government is not fulfilling its commitment to recruit more than 700 people from the militancy-affected families in levies and other law enforcement agencies. He added the tribal people fought along with security forces against terrorists, had ignored in recruitments in levies, militia and Pakistan army.

Furthermore, he said the former governor, Shaukatullah Khan had announced a package of Rs 160 million for TDPs of Tirah, but he said the commitment was yet not materialized. Likewise, he said another hefty amount of Rs 3.5 billion for the militancy affected people of the valley was announced by former governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, which also yet not practically implemented.

Malik Naseeb said the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) Director General during visit to Tirah had assured the residents of the valley to carryout damaged assessment survey through Computerised National Identity Cards, but the commitment was also not fulfilled.

Flanked by elders from various tribes, Bildar Khan, Saeed Gul, Mohammad Farooq, Haji Mewa Din and others, he expressed concern over the ongoing survey in the valley, and asked the authorities government to open a Nadra centre in Tirah as well as to ensure transparency in the assessment survey in the area.

The elder termed the compensation amount of Rs0.4million for each affected family was insufficient to fulfill the needs of the militancy affected people. He urged the authorities concerned to give prior intimation to elders and people of Afridi tribe before disbursement of compensation amount among the affected family in the valley.

He said the World Food Program had announced a package of Rs 6000 for food and non-food items on return of TDPs to their respective areas, but the half amount was paid to the displaced family.
