Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan on Thursday gave call to his "tigers and tigresses" to get ready for anti-government movement of Dr Tahirul Qadri who is set to start his grand protest on January 17. Speaking at a presser here, he once again condemned Kasur incident in strongest possible terms and said institutions, especially the police, have become redundant due to political interference.

Terming the incident unbearable and inhumane, he said that after APS Peshawar massacre, Kasur incident sent shock waves throughout the country, adding such inhuman incidents can only be stopped if "we make the police apolitical and independent like that of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa."

He said that except two state institutions - the Supreme Court and the military - the people are not ready to accept credibility of a single institution, which reflects how the Sharifs have destroyed the institutions for their own personal vested interests.

"The Sharifs who have been ruling the Punjab province for nineteen years, more than anybody else, but instead of introducing reforms, the police uniforms are being changed, which shows how Shahbaz Sharif runs the province," he lamented. He said that the a huge chunk of national wealth is spent on the security of Jati Umra, the private residence of Sharifs, along with some 2,500 police personnel, and the government is not bothered about providing security to life and property of common citizen.

"About Rs 7 billion have so far been spent on the security of Jati Umra, while we built a state-of-the-art Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Peshawar at a cost of Rs 4 billion. If such a huge amount is spent on security of a single individual [Sharif], how a poor country like ours can progress?" he questioned. To a question, he said that the reason people are looking forward to the military and the apex court is because they have lost confidence in other state institutions, which can only be revived if "we build institutions and give them independence instead of using them for petty political interests."

"The parents of seven-year-old Zainab are also demanding justice from the Army Chief and Chief Justice, and not from the Punjab police and provincial government. The police, which are supposed to protect people, are busy in protecting one family," said Khan.

The bereaved families of the Model Town tragedy are still on the streets demanding justice, said Khan, adding that a worker named Haq Nawaz was also killed but no one did anything. "In Kasur, police fired straight at the protesters and which professional force does act this way?" questioned the PTI leader.

While reiterating that the Punjab police are highly politicized, Khan said that all the recruitments in the provincial police force are 'done from Raiwind.' The PTI chairman said when crime occurs of this nature in other countries, the culprits are always taken to task and steps are taken to ensure that such incidents don't recur.

The PTI chairman also lambasted Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for his silence in wake of US President Donald Trump's tweet against Pakistan. He said that the Prime Minister who does not exhaust by calling a "disqualified man and money launderer" [Nawaz Sharif] as his leader, but is not ready to give a tit-for-tat response to Trump.

Earlier, during a meeting with Afghan Ambassador Omar Zakhilwal, who called on him at his Bani Gala residence, Khan said that every Pakistani desires peace and stability in Afghanistan as no other country needs a peaceful Afghanistan more than Pakistan.

Bilateral relations between the two countries and matters of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting. Khan said that Afghan refugees are being treated like 'guests' in Pakistan and the masses have nothing but utter respect for their neighbours.

"The future of bilateral ties between the two countries is based on coexistence," remarked the PTI chairman. Khan said that closure of Pak-Afghan border is not a solution to issues, adding free trade and ease in movement are in the interests of the two countries. Both the governments will have to improve and strengthen the decades-long bilateral ties, he added. "The geography makes us inseparable from each other," he maintained.
