A Chinese delegation headed by Zhenyi Tang, Chairman CLSA, a subsidiary of CIITIC, called on Federal Minister for Privatization, Daniyal Aziz here on Tuesday. The CLSA is responsible for overseeing the firm's capital market businesses spanning across more than 10 countries around the world. This investment bank is leading capital market and investment group of Asia and declared number 1 in the region.

Talking to Chinese investors Daniyal Aziz apprised them of the investment opportunities existing in different sectors of national economy including energy, infrastructure, transportation, communication and agriculture, said a press release. The minister shared with the delegation the investment opportunities existing in capital and security market including finance and banking sector.

Moreover, the minister said that many of the major privatization of SOEs has taken place during the last four years, and the credit for prioritizing this sector goes exclusively to the incumbent government of PML-N under the visionary leadership of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He further said that Pakistan is a fast growing economy and is striving for the betterment and improving the efficiencies of state owned enterprises. The minister informed the chairman that 14 entities have been identified for privatization in energy sector and called upon the visiting delegation to explore the investment opportunities in energy sector. The minister told them that during recent past Pakistan has enhanced its electricity generation capacity from 15,000 to 26,000MW in order to fulfill the domestic energy requirements. Daniyal Aziz further enlightened the delegation about the tremendous possibilities of public private partnership (PPP) in oil and gas sector.

The chairman CLSA expressed his desire to exploit the existing investment opportunities in Pakistan and expressed his resolve to expand their business in Pakistan as it would be more preferable than UK; as China is enjoying very warm relations with Pakistan especially in the backdrop of CPEC, where the potential for investment seems more promising. The CLSA could help the local investors for investing in local capital market or Hong Kong to which they have an easy access. The federal secretary privatization and other senior officers also attended the important meeting.-PR
