Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), sponsored 'jirga' has set a mid-January deadline to government for merger the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), otherwise, it was decided that all pro-merger political parties, and people will hold march to Islamabad, and stage indefinite 'sit-in' there. The event on titled: 'Fata merger Jirga' was held under auspices of JI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter at press club here on Wednesday, which chaired by the party Central acting ameer, Liaqat Baloch. Senior Minister for local government, and rural development, Inayatullah Khan was representing Khyber Government in the event.

A communiqué was presented by former MNA and JI leader, Sahibzada Haroon ul Rashid on the occasion, calling for taking necessary legal measures for merger of Fata with KP, abolishment of Frontier Crime Regulations Act, extension of jurisdictions of Peshawar High Court and Supreme court to the tribal region, repealing of article 246 and 247 of the constitution to ensure all constitutional rights to Fata people.

The declaration also sought the representation of Fata in provincial assembly before general elections 2018. It also demanded the holding of local bodies elections on paten of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in all the tribal agencies. The statement further asked the implementation of Sartaj Aziz led reforms committee recommendations with true letter and spirit. It also demanded the announcement of Rs 1000billion package rehabilitation for temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) and reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure in Fata. The declaration sought the increase in share of National Finance Commission Award for Fata upto 7 per cent, while the Fata should be declared as tax-free zone for next 50-years. It also demanded the declaring education emergency in tribal region.

JI provincial ameer, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Fata ameer Sardar Khan, ANP leader Latif Afridi Advocate, PPP leader Akhunzada Chattan, PTI Mohammad Iqbal Afridi, analyst and journalist, Saleem Safi, QWP leader Asad Khan Advocate, JI MNA Tariqullah Khan, Presidnet Peshawar High Court Bar Associaotn president, Arbab Usman were keynote speakers at the jirga. Besides, representatives of civil society, lawyers, political activists, tribal elders, youth, and people from different walk of life were also participated on the occasion. Liaqat Baloch while speaking on the occasion said that the Fata people had deprived from all constitutional rights since of inception of the country. He said the education, and health facilities were not available to people of tribal region, which was sheer unjust with them.

JI leader stressed the need for merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to open new chapter of development and progress in the region. He said the majority of tribal people are in favour of the integration with KP. He said the FCR is black law, which should be abolished to ensure all constitutional right to people of Fata. He said that some political leaders took stance about Fata-KP integration and demand for making consultation with tribal people on the issue. He said that it was not strong justification to take opinion of tribal people on Fata status. He viewed the demand to hold referendum or declaring Fata as separate province was aimed to the put the Fata issue on backburner and delayed merger of the tribal region with the province. He clarified that his party had put four main conditions before the Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam (JUI-F) chief, Maulana Fazlur Rahman for joining the political parties alliance or former MMA - Muttihad Majlis Amal. He said the Fata issue was top among the four conditions. He informed the Fata issue would be discussed in next meeting of MMA.

"We are sincere on the Fata issue, and would continue struggle till merger of tribal region with KP", JI leader vowed. He, however said that it is democratic right of every political party to set own strategy for the upcoming general elections. But, he said they will fight for rights of the tribal people on basis of solid logic and reasons instead of rely on mere fiction. He also supported with the proposal of form a committee to hold a final meeting with governemtn and relevant authorities for merger of Fata with KP. If not get any befitting response, he said the taking to streets would be sorted as last option. He fully ensdored the charter of demand Commenting on the recent statement of US president, Donald Trump's against Pakistan, Mr Baloch stressed the need for bringing unity in our ranks to tackle with any external threats. He said the US is accusing Pakistan to hide its failure during prolonged invasion in neighbouring Afghanistan. Others speakers, including Inayatullah Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Sardar Khan, Dr Said Alam Meshud, Saleem Safi, Akhunzada Chattan, Iqbal Afridi, Aamir Khan Afridi, Latif Afridi, fully backed the charter of demands for right of tribal people.
