Activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), rallying to express their support for sugarcane growers of Nooriabad, clashed with police at Metropole in Karachi on Wednesday night. The police detained 12 protesters including PTI senior leader Arif Alvi. However, he was later released.

PTI supporters pelted security forces with stones which led to baton-charge by the police personnel and water cannons were also used to disperse the demonstrators. Meanwhile, Kissan Insaf Rally reached from Hyderabad. The rally had been organised by the party against the refusal of sugar mills to pay the officially fixed price of the cane crop to growers.
