Spot basis bids for hard red winter (HRW) wheat on Friday in the southern US Plains were unchanged and tranquil leading into the three-day New Year's holiday weekend, dealers said. The Chicago Board of Trade's K.C. March HRW wheat futures contract at 12:34 pm CST (1834 GMT) was down 1/2 cents at $4.26-1/4 cents per bushel on year-end positioning.

The US Department of Agriculture reported export sales of US wheat in the latest week in line with trade forecasts. Protein premiums on Thursday for wheat delivered by railcar to or through Kansas City were steady.
