Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has requested to extend the last date of e-filing of income tax returns till December 31, 2017. In a letter sent to Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, the association stated that members were continuously working day and night in order to complete the gigantic task of preparing and filing the returns of their various clients as the deadline was swiftly approaching ie November 15, 2017. It further said that due to Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S.) on November 10, 2017, most part of Karachi may remain closed and it would not be possible for the taxpayers to visit the offices of their tax consultants and similarly many of members would not be able to reach their offices. It is also likely expected that the mobile phone service shall also remain closed, throughout Pakistan, for the whole day.

The letter therefore said that KTBA had no other option but to request Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to intervene into the matter and extend the date of e-filing of returns till December 31, 2017, which the association termed as legal right of the taxpayer under the statute.
