Pakistan Tax Advisors Association (PTAA) has approached the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for extension in the date for filing of income tax returns/wealth statements for Tax Year 2017 up to December 15, 2017.

According to a communication of Javed Iqbal Qazi Chairman PTAA to FBR Chairman Tariq Pasha here on Wednesday, returns of Total Income in respect of Companies having closing other than June 30th, Individuals & Association of Persons were statutorily due by 30.09.2017; however, due to non- finalization of Tax returns and its availability on IRIS Portal the date was extended to September 31, 2017.

The Return in respect of Limited Companies was put on the web on 19.10.2017 while Return for Individuals & Association of Person was loaded Officially on the Net on 28.09.2017; which definitely is not a sufficient time allowed for filing, as compared to 90 days allowed by law.

Javed Iqbal Qazi said that all the Tax Practitioners, Chartered Accountants & Advocates engaged in the profession of Taxation are busy in the preparation of tax returns of their clients and as per our information till date about 40% of Total Returns have been e-filed while for balance of 60% they are striving hard but cannot achieve the target due to late providing of Tax Return Forms on the system and non-operation of the web site due to heavy load (probably due to lack of domain width). Further, the prevailing uncertain political conditions in the country the taxpayers are undecided and hesitant in coming forward for filing/submission of Returns by the due date.

In such a situation, it is requested that the date of submission of Returns be extended to 15.12.2017 instead of 31.10.2017 in the best interest of justice & fair play, he added.
